Smooth Operator

Republicans had better be paying attention this election because Barack Obama is the Left’s dream boy. Let me begin, however, by saying that I was initially taken in myself. Washington has seen so much divisiveness in this past 8 years. Though I don’t believe the GOP is to blame for the poisonous atmosphere that surrounds politics these days, nevertheless I recognize that some kind of remedy needs to be found and some figure who can unite the country would sure be nice to have right now. So, I listened to Obama’s message early on when he claimed to be that person. And you have to admit it, he makes a nice speech. He comes across as a “good boy.” And for a while, I was taken in.
No more. Look at his record and you see a different picture. Actions speak louder than words, and based on this guy’s actions he is not the champion of even the majority of Democrats — though he tries to make us believe he’s there for the Average Joe. But on the contrary, Barack Obama is a Liberal, White Anglo Saxon Protestant, shrill dream of a true “progressive, Left-wing” leader. He represents the vocal, abusive core of his party — the ones who remember the Glory Days of ‘68 (like William Ayers).
His other ardent admirers are the abortion-loving NARAL where, in the pious euphemisms of their cause he says,”I believe we must work together to reduce the number of unintended pregnancies,” which is really only a charming way to say we ought to kill some people that we don’t want around. How many of us were ever ”intended,” anyway? Reader, were you “intended”? Unless, of course, you believe in God and his intention, but isn’t that intention precisely the one that abortion seeks to subvert? Obama is a “Christian,” as he never tires of reminding us, and the Rev. Wright was once his personal hero, though no more. Where the cause of life is concerned, one notes that Obama’s church’s bible somehow inadvertently lost the books of Isaiah and Luke. Indeed, evidently there’s whole sections of scripture that Obama’s church put to the shredder a long time ago.
Obama is a Left-wing guy, and a True Believer in the Left-wing thing. If you don’t believe me, check out his admirers because they are screaming it on the roof-tops! And those of us in the great, tolerant middle of American thought should not be fooled. Indeed, we ought to be very worried.
If the GOP turns out its voters, the Obama disaster might be averted. But of course McCain is not as conservative as Obama is progressive, and the Republican Party’s engine is running on low octane fuel at the moment. In the battle of the two Wings, Obama seems to have it. And that’s scarey.
And that’s why moderates need to get off their posteriors and vote in huge numbers in this election. This is the kind of election that the Reagan Democrats and Reagan Republicans can decide if they want to — they and their moderate, temperate political heirs.
It’s time. McCain is not Reagan of course, and he’d be the first to admit it. But he’s the man we’ve got. And he’s all that’s standing between us and the shrills.
I once thought that perhaps Obama was a voice of reconciliation. Now I realize that if Obama gets the ticket, the real shrillness will be just beginning. They don’t want “change,” they want power. That’s what the Left has always wanted. But they need your vote to get power. And just like they’ll raise your taxes and then tell you they’re “giving” you this and that, they’ll take power and then tell you what’s good for you.
They like power. And Obama is their true son. A real smooth operator.
